Founded in 1908 at Howard University, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® is the oldest Greek-letter organization established in America by African-American college women. Since its founding, the sorority has flourished into a globally-impactful organization of over 270,000 college trained members, bound by the bonds of sisterhood and empowered by a commitment to servant-leadership that is both, domestic and international in its scope.

Omega Tau Omega Chapter is an alumni chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, serving the Fort Mill, SC area and Upper and Far Western York County, SC since 2017. We are dedicated to continuing Alpha Kappa Alpha’s legacy in promoting high scholastic and ethical standards through service and scholarship.

Requirements & Eligibility

Omega Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is in search of 2022 college scholarship candidates.  During the spring, Omega Tau Omega Chapter will award five college scholarships.  The awarding of scholarships actuates one of our goals for our Educational Advancement Foundation – promote lifelong learning.  

  • Applicant must be a May or June 2022 graduating African American male or female high school senior.
  • Applicant must be planning to attend an accredited college, university or other higher learning institution. Scholarship recipients must provide proof of acceptance and enrollment before funds are disbursed to the student.
  • A minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4-point scale (unweighted) is required.
  • Scholarship winners must attend their school’s end of year award’s ceremony.

Scholarship Application Criteria

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Omega Tau Omega Chapter Scholarship is supported by the fundraising efforts of chapter members and the York County Pearls of Promise Charitable Foundation. The recipient(s) of this scholarship will be awarded financial support to be used towards educational expenses.


A 250-500 word typed essay on one of the following topics which will include significance / relevance / impact to the African American and/or female population of today’s culture:

  • Community Service: If you could choose a community service project or activity to support or participate in, what would you choose, why and what would your service look like?
  • The Arts: 1920 marked the Era of the Harlem Renaissance. What was the significance of the period? Choose an artist from this Era, identify his or her accomplishments and share why this artist was your preference.
  • Global Impact: We live in a global society where social media has become the main source of societal livelihood. What do you think are the pros and cons of this technology and how do you identify with it?

Application Submission

The application submission packet must include the following:

  1. A completed 2022 application form which includes evidence of a minimum of 20 community service hours over the past year.
  2. The applicant’s official high school transcript. (Must be emailed to by a school counselor)
  3. Three (3) letters of recommendation as indicated in application form.
  4. A typed essay as indicated in application form.
  5. A wallet size photograph.

All application packets must be emailed by April 15, 2022.  Incomplete or late application packets will not be considered.
